Merchant Account Glossary: Bank Card, Batch, Batch ID

Bank Card

A Visa / MasterCard credit card.

Why is it called a bank card? Because it is issued by a bank, unlike American Express or Discover which issue their cards directly.

Batch

A collection of credit card transactions saved and submitted for processing all at one time. This is helpful for merchants who operate a membership or recurring billing business. Your "batch file" can be uploaded to your virtual terminal and processed all at once.

Batch ID

Once a batch is settled, it receives a unique batch ID. Each and every transaction in that batch shares this identifier.

Note: If a transaction doesn't have a batch ID associated with it, that transaction has not been settled.
