Merchant Account Glossary: Void and Voice Authorization

Void

The merchant reverses an approved transaction (a transaction that has been authorized but not settled). Once a transaction is settled, it will require processing of a credit in order to be reversed.

Voice Authorization or "Voice Auth"

An issuing bank sends a "Please Call" message to the merchant instead of an authorization number.

The merchant must make a phone call for authorization.
